With isolated thunderstorms expected this evening, there is a potential that the weather would disrupt the IPL 2023 final, which will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The first side to make it to the playoffs, the Gujarat Titans, fell to the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the first round of qualifying. However, GT recovered to thrash Mumbai Indians in the second qualifying round, securing a rematch on May 28 (Sunday).
If the weather had interfered with the playoffs (two qualifiers and one eliminator), making no play possible during the regular period, then the victor would have been determined by Super Over if the circumstances permitted.
Since there were no reserve days for the playoffs, the team that ended higher on the points table would be regarded to have won the game in the event that the circumstances would not allow for even a Super Over.
So what happens if rain causes the CSK vs. GT IPL 2023 final to be postponed?
Here is all the information you need.
The following rules will apply if any of the Final, Eliminator, Qualifier 1 or Qualifier 2 matches are tied or have an undetermined outcome:
16.11.1 – To decide which side will win the relevant match, the relevant teams will participate in a Super Over and, if required, further Super Overs; and
The team that finished in the higher position in the League table at the end of the relevant regular Season (in accordance with clause 16.10 above) will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match if conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs, within the time available to determine the winner as described in Appendix F.
